In
the 20's Westlake was known as "the west coast Champs Elysees".
Charlie Chaplin and Edna Purviance and other famous movie celebs
lived in homes near the park.
Just
West of downtown and extending from North University Park to Echo
Park lies MacArthur Park and environs or "Westlake".
In these Eastern mid Wilshire neighborhoods, majr corporations
once had offices.
Some
of the Finest hotels in LA were located and still stand in the
Westlake Area. One Lake Street, Bonnie Brae, West Lake lie some
of the last remaining grand Victorians left in Los Angeles
And
on the major streets lies some of the best 30's, 40's, and 50's
architecture in the city. Langers on Alvarado and Eight street
is still one of the best Jewish Deli's in LA. Also, I might note
just a block from the park lies the metro line. These nice homes
are pushing a million today.
